JNU missing student: Students gheraoed VC entire night, allege university not taking incident seriously

New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) vice-chancellor and other officials have come out of office after being gheraoed since yesterday by protesters. Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is in the news after one of its students has gone missing. Anger with the lackluster attitude of JNU administration, students had staged demonstration entire last night inside the campus. It had been 23 hours since students had gheraoed the vice-chancellor and other officers, forcing them to remain in their offices. Students alleged that university administration is not taking the matter seriously. "We are inside our offices since 20 hours, if students continue to protest, we have to call police", said Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, VC, to the ABP News channel. However, late night and today, VC has issued a statement and assured that everything is being done to locate the missing student. Najeeb Ahmed, one of the students of the university, is missing since October 15. As per allegations, on 14th October, he had a quarrel with an ABVP student at Mandavi hostel and the very next day he got missing. ABVP had alleged that the missing student had initiated the fight. "We have nothing to do with Najeeb Ahmad going missing, we are unnecessarily being dragged into this", said Alok Sharma of ABVP, reported ANI. However, after the Najeeb got missing, JNUSU is trying to put the blame on the ABVP. Last night, for almost eight hours, the students gheraoed the VC office. Even after the assurance from the VC, students carried on their protest. Cops have also announced that Rs 50,000 will be given to anyone who will inform about the missing student. Home Minister keeping a close watch: Home Minister Rajnath Singh also had a word with Delhi police commissioner and inquired about the entire incident.
