Delhi Put On High Alert After UP Police Inputs Of Possible Terror Attack

In order to confirm the threat, the Delhi police conducted a thorough search in Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar Market on Tuesday.

New Delhi: The national capital has been put on a high-security alert after the threat of a possible terror attack received by the UP police, news agency ANI reported.

According to a Delhi police special cell officer, an anonymous email was received by some people, who approached the UP police about the same. The email was purportedly sent by a terrorist organization named Tehrik-e-Taliban.

The details of the email were shared with the Delhi police by the UP police.

In order to confirm the threat, the Delhi police conducted a thorough search in Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar Market on Tuesday.

Post the search, the president of Sarojini Nagar Mini Market Traders Association, Ashok Randhawa told ANI that the market has been shut due to some security threat.

"Due to some security threat. Delhi police have received orders to get the markets closed and observe strict vigil,” he claimed.

However, Delhi police denied issuing any such order. The police said that they conducted the search as a prevention and not to shut down the market.

"We went there to conduct preventive search not to close down the market," Delhi Police officials told ANI.

As per ANI sources, the Delhi police are also trying to track the person who sent the email and verify the claims he made.

What is noteworthy here is that this is not the first threat this year. Earlier, the police had found two IEDs from the Ghazipur and Seemapuri areas of Delhi. Similar alerts were issued in Delhi ahead of Republic Day.
