A Sneak Peek Inside Karan Johar's House Designed By Gauri Khan

Gauri renovated Karan's roughly 5,500-square-foot apartment extension to this penthouse. Take a look at this phenomenal place.

New Delhi: Designer Gauri Khan, has completed a new mission, which is designing a bachelor pad for her filmmaker buddy Karan Johar. Gauri renovated Karan's roughly 5,500-square-foot apartment extension to this penthouse. Architectural Digest's Instagram page posted a photo of their newest cover, which featured Karan, and mentioned how the filmmaker's apartment in Mumbai's posh neighbourhood Pali Hill was renovated.

The post was also shared by Karan on his Instagram handle. It was written, "The bond between Gauri Khan, who has successfully carved a career as an interior expert and Karan Johar — a director, producer, talk-show host, and author—dates back to when he, as a young assistant director on the seminal film 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', struck up a friendship with Gauri and Shah Rukh Khan. In the nearly three decades since, they have seen each other through different professional paths, the birth of five children (Khan’s three and Johar’s twins), milestone celebrations, and even some personal setbacks."

"While “Friends Like Family” is now a hackneyed term, Johar has long been unequivocal that Khan is and will always be his chosen family. So when Karan Johar decided that the approximately 5,500-square-foot apartment extension to his penthouse home, nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac off Bandra’s Pali Hill, needed a gut renovation, Gauri Khan was the only choice.", Architectural Digest further wrote.

Talking about the terrace of the house, Gauri Khan told Architectural Digest that during the lockdown, the home's wraparound terrace was extremely useful to Johar, his mother Hiroo, and his siblings Roohi and Yash. It's a huge area, and without any furniture, the kids could run around and play. We would meet there for chai and family time every evening after Roohi and Yash finished their virtual schooling.

"This home is bespoke; it’s one of a kind. It is designed to reflect who Karan is: glamorous, fun, and also a little over the top! It’s not a space that can be imitated", Architectural Digest quoted Gauri Khan as saying.

Knowing Karan’s love for entertaining, Architectural Digest further wrote that Gauri wanted the home to serve as a seamless extension of his personality, where guests could make themselves comfortable from the get-go.

The main entryway wall is clad in a dramatic, fluted, black-and-white 'panda' marble that lines the hallway into a light-filled living room, where tall, arched French windows open onto a tranquil patio dotted with tropical plants, where Karan can enjoy his coffee.

While Gauri used a medley of richer tones in the public areas, she used a softer palette of beiges, muted metal tones, and wooden herringbone floors in Karan's personal spaces—his dressing room, bedroom, and bathroom—while still keeping some distinctive threads to tie in the entire design story.

Talking about the furniture at Karan's new home, there are beige-coloured sofas, adorned with silver cushions along with a wooden centre table in the living room. It also has beige chairs and a blue sofa to add a tinge of colour to the place. Additionally, there is also a chandelier that lights up the entire room. The wash area is in shades of black with green plants oozing a freshness in the area.

Along with these, the house is lined up with a number of indoor plants and picture frames which make the place all the more bright.
