Veteran Actor Chandrashekhar Best Known For 'Ramayan' Dies Aged 98

The senior actor appeared in about 250 films. His first film as a hero was ‘Surang’ which released in 1953.

Veteran actor and social activist, Chandrashekhar Vaidya is no more. The Bollywood veteran passed away this morning (June 16) at 7am at his Mumbai residence, he was 98.

Chandrashekhar was best known for playing Arya Sumant in Ramanand Sagar's TV series ‘Ramayan’.

While talking to ABP News Chandrashekhar’s grandfather, Vishal Shekhar confirmed the demise of the veteran actor and said that ‘he had no issues with his health. He was in the hospital for a day, last Thursday. We brought him back home and had kept all facilities including oxygen at our disposal if the need would arise. He was okay last night.”

Not many of us know, Chandrashekhar Vaidya was also the maternal grandfather of ‘Meri Aashqui Tumse Hi’ fame popular TV actor Shakti Arora.

Chandrashekhar's son, professor Ashok Chandra Shekhar, informed that his last rites will take place around 3pm at Vile Parle Crematorium in Mumbai. The veteran actor died of old-age ailments.

Chandrashekhar Vaidya was a popular actor of 1950's and he has worked in films like Kaali Topi Laal Rumaal, Baradari, Street Singer and Rustom e Baghdad . The senior actor appeared in about 250 films. His first film as a hero was ‘Surang’ which released in 1953.

He also produced, directed and acted as the lead hero in his hit musical film ‘Cha Cha Cha’ (1964), which was the first film of Helen in a lead role. He is also credited to introduce the dance form Cha Cha Cha in India with the film.

He also served as President of the Cine Artistes Association (CINTAA) from 1985 to 1996.
