New Delhi: Millions throughout the globe still fall in love with Sushmita Sen, and her high-quality performances continue to keep them entertained. Recently, she recalled how director Mahesh Bhatt approached her and requested her to portray 'Sushmita Sen in a movie’. In spite of the fact that the actress had told the director that she was incapable of acting, Mahesh Bhatt cast her in the part of a beauty queen. She has now spoken publicly about how Mahesh shattered her ambition publicly by criticising her acting abilities. 

Sushmita Sen spoke with Twinkle Khanna on Tweak India's YouTube channel, 'The Icons,' and discussed her film career. After she won Miss Universe, Twinkle asked her whether she planned to pursue a career in acting in the film industry. Sushmita recalled when she returned from LA, Mahesh Bhatt called her. During one of her first scenes, she was required to display her rage. 

She said about Mahesh Bhatt, “He’s a fabulous director, I’ll give him that, because he broke inhibitions in front of 40 media people, 20 production assistants, publicly attacking me. And I started crying.”

She continued, “He was like, ‘Kya leke aaye ho? Playing Miss Universe like this on camera? She can't act to save her life’. So I got very angry and started walking off the set. He tried to hold my hand, and I just snapped at him and said, ‘No, you don’t talk to me like that’. I was walking away, and he grabbed my hand again and said, ‘That’s anger, go back and do it’.”

She also complimented Mahesh on his abilities as a filmmaker, but she and Twinkle connected over the fact that female performers were often the target of anger from male directors in the 90s.

In the meanwhile, Sushmita made her OTT debut with the Disney+Hotstar series ‘Aarya’ and was praised for her strong performance.
