Aamir Khan's ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ Cleared Without Cuts

Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, featuring neurodivergent children and exploring empathy and inclusion, gets CBFC clearance without cuts. Releases June 20.

The much-anticipated Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ has officially been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without any cuts, paving the way for its theatrical release on June 20. The film, which is being touted as a spiritual sequel to the 2007 classic ‘Taare Zameen Par’, explores powerful themes of inclusion, empathy, and second chances.

Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the film features nine neurodivergent children in pivotal roles and marks a bold and heartfelt move in mainstream Indian cinema.

CBFC Clears Film After Meeting with Aamir Khan

Earlier reports indicated that the CBFC had suggested two cuts in the film, which Aamir Khan reportedly found unacceptable. The actor-producer was expected to meet with censor board officials on Monday to discuss the matter. According to sources, the issues were resolved during the meeting, leading to a final clearance without any cuts.

This outcome reflects the CBFC’s recognition of the film’s sensitive and socially relevant subject matter, as well as Khan’s persuasive advocacy for authentic storytelling.

Sitaare Zameen Par plot

‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ follows the journey of a frustrated basketball coach, played by Aamir Khan, who is sentenced to community service after a DUI conviction. Assigned to train neurodivergent adults, he gradually gains new perspectives on life, empathy, and perseverance.

The film stars ten promising actors – Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar – who bring authenticity and heart to the narrative.

Genelia Deshmukh plays a key role in the film, adding to its emotional and star appeal.

Real-Life Family and Talented Crew Add Depth

Adding a personal touch to the project, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ also marks the acting debut of Aamir Khan’s 90-year-old mother Zeenat Hussain, with his elder sister and actor Nikhat Hegde also featuring in the film.

Directed by RS Prasanna, known for ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’, the film boasts lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and a soul-stirring musical score by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The screenplay is written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, and the film is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, along with B Shrinivas Rao and Ravi Bhagchandka.

With its compelling narrative and authentic performances, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ is set to be not just a film, but a movement for inclusivity and understanding.
