Jaya Bachchan Cried During Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha's Love Scenes In Muqaddar Ka Sikandar: Rekha
Rekha opens up about witnessing Jaya Bachchan cry during a trial screening of Muqaddar Ka Sikandar and addresses rumours about her bond with Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan.

Even decades after its release, the personal dynamics between Bollywood legends Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, and Jaya Bachchan continue to spark public interest. In a throwback interview with Stardust magazine, Rekha recalled a deeply emotional moment involving Jaya Bachchan during the trial screening of the 1978 hit film 'Muqaddar Ka Sikandar'.
“I Saw Tears Pouring Down Her Face,” Says Rekha
Rekha revealed that during the trial screening of 'Muqaddar Ka Sikandar', she had a clear view of the Bachchan family from the projection room. What she witnessed left a lasting impact on her.
“Once, I was looking at the whole (Bachchan) family through the projection room when they came to see the trial show of Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. Jaya was sitting in the front row, and he (Amitabh) and his parents were in the row behind her… During our love scenes, I could see tears pouring down her face.”
The film featured intense romantic scenes between Rekha and Amitabh, fuelling already strong speculations about their off-screen chemistry. Soon after, Rekha heard whispers about Amitabh’s decision to stop collaborating with her.
“A week later, everybody in the industry was telling me that he had made it clear to his producers that he was not going to work with me.”
Media-Fueled Rift? Rekha Clears the Air on Bond with Jaya
Contrary to tabloid reports that alleged tension between Rekha and Jaya Bachchan, the Umrao Jaan star spoke warmly of her bond with Jaya in a candid conversation with Simi Garewal.
“Didibhai (Jaya) is much more mature, much more together… We were living in the same building and we had a relationship. She was my Didibhai, she still is – no matter what happens, nobody can take that away. Thank God she realises that too.”
Rekha praised Jaya’s strength, dignity, and grace, crediting the media for distorting their once-close association.
Silsila: Their Final On-Screen Collaboration
The trio’s last on-screen appearance together was in 'Silsila' (1981), directed by Yash Chopra—a film as famous for its plot as for the real-life drama surrounding it. Often cited as a cinematic reflection of their alleged love triangle, Silsila added fuel to public fascination but also marked the end of Amitabh and Rekha’s professional partnership.
While Amitabh Bachchan has remained silent over the years, Rekha’s openness in interviews has continued to keep the intrigue alive. Yet through it all, her admiration for Jaya Bachchan has remained consistent—a sentiment that complicates the narrative of rivalry often pushed by the media.
