Priyanka Chopra Recalls The Memory Of Wearing The Mangalsutra For The First Time, Says, "It Was A Special Moment"

New Delhi: Priyanka Chopra married American-pop singer Nick Jonas in 2018. She recently shared her thoughts on wearing the mangalsutra for the first time after tying the knot with Nick.

Priyanka is often spotted flaunting her mangalsutra. Sharing a brand endorsement for the Italian luxury brand Bulgari on her Instagram, the 'Citadel' actress spoke about how she felt on wearing the mangalsutra for the first time and its signifance for her. The actress said, “I remember when I wore mine for the first time… because we have grown with the idea of what it means. It was just a very special moment for me. At the same time, as a modern woman, I also understand the repercussions of what it means. Do I like the idea of wearing mangalsutra or is it too patriarchal? But at the same time, I am that generation that's sort of in the middle. Maintain tradition but know who you are and what you stand for. And we'll see the next generation of girls might do differently.”

She shared the concept behind a mangalsutra and how she likes to carry it in a contemporary way with jeans and shirts. She also shared her knowledge of this auspicious piece of jewellery and told that the black beads are used to ward off evil.

Priyanka is often seen honouring the Indian traditions despite being away from the country. She even includes her American husband in the various pujas or festive celebrations. A few months back, pictures from the Jonas’ Diwali celebrations went viral.
