Prince Harry, Meghan Markle In A Catastropic Car Chase In US: Report

On Wednesday, the news came to light when his spokesperson told Reuters about it.

New Delhi: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were involved in a'near catastrophic car chase' in the US. The two were also accompanied by Meghan's mother. The incident involved paparazzi photographers On Wednesday, the news came to light when his spokesperson told Reuters about it.

The incident occured after the two ex-royals attended an awards ceremony in New York City by Ms. Foundation for Women, where Meghan was honoured for her work, reported Reuters.

"Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi," the spokesperson said in a statement.

"This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers."

While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone's safety. Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all in involved,” the statement read.

The incident has occurred hours after Harry was told that the UK police are not for hire amid his legal battle with the UK government regarding security for him and his family.

Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States partly because of 'intense media harassment'.

The incident might bring back memories from old interviews where Prince Harry has spoken about his mother Princess Diana's death and attributed it to press intrusion. The Prince has on many previous occasions spoken of his mother's death caused by the press intrusion which led to her limousine crash as it sped away from chasing paparazzi in Paris in 1997.
