Ponniyin Selvan 2 Twitter Review: Social Media Divided Over PS Vs Baahubali

Ponniyin Selvan 2 Review: Amid much fanfare, director Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 2 released across the world on Friday (April 28).

The highest-grossing period drama of Tamil Cinema last year 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' is back with its second part 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' but this time with much expectations. Amid much fanfare, director Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 2 released across the world on Friday (April 28). The film is based on the five-part fictional series written by ‘Kalki’ Krishnamurthy. 

While ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ was all about establishing the characters, PS 2 is about delving deeper into the story and solving the mystery surrounding the Chola throne. The second part of the movie also features Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj among others. The cinematography of the movie was done by Ravi Varman and AR Rahman composed the music. 

While the movie’s early morning show was not scheduled in Tamil Nadu, people from other states and countries where the film was screened in the early morning have already begun to flood social media with their reviews. 

Some of the social media users call the movie “an epic” while a few others could not stop themselves from comparing the movie with “Baahubali 2”. 

A Twitter user, Kumar Swayam said, "#PonniyinSelvan2 Review: Brilliance Written All Over It👏 #ChiyaanVikram & #AishwaryaRai were superb & their scenes were🔥#Karthi again shines😄 #Trisha & #JayamRavi were good too👌 Music & BGM Cinematography💯 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5."

Another Twitter user, Venky Reviews said, "#PonniyinSelvan2 A Satisfactory Period Drama that works in parts! The drama is decent for the most part along with the art design & songs. However, the film feels stretched out in parts due to slow/flat pacing and could use trimming. Better than the 1st Part Rating: 2.75/5 #PS2.”

However, some social media users could not stop them from comparing the period film with ‘Baahubali’.

Taking to social media, Lets OTT said, " #PonniyinSelvan2 is 100 TIMES BETTER THAN #Baahubali. 🔥🔥 #Maniratnam the master craftsman has done it in style. 🔥🔥 #PS2"

"Don't compare #PS2 with filmy Bahubali. #ManiRatnam cinema make as feel reality. Not jumping tree to tree..🥱 Do watch. Tamils we have separate standards. 1000cr shits not in our league," Diya said.

Barath said, “Clearly winner, Rajamouli should join the mani ratnam academy to know how to craft a movie like ponniyin Selvan. Better than overrated #Baahubali Series ngl.”

However, a few others were not satisfied with the movie and praised Baahubali. Peter Quill, a Twitter user said, "#PonniyinSelvan2 negative reviews everywhere 😕 We again failed to beat Bahubali 😔 It's time to agree Rajamouli is a GOAT."

There was also another debate where some of the movie buffs supported PS 1 over PS 2.
