Panchayat Actor Sunita Rajwar Says Supporting Actors Are 'Treated Like Animals': 'Small Dingy Room, No Clean Bathroom'

The glamorous side of the entertainment industry often veils the dark underbelly of the world. Lead actors enjoy many perks that comes with the fame, but this is not true for numerous character artists and television actors. Sunita Rajwar, known for her role in the popular web series ‘Panchayat’, talked about the unjust hierarchy that prevails in the industry. In a recent interview, the seasoned actor said that actors who appear in smaller roles are “treated like animals.” Rajwar also revealed that she took a break from acting for two years after facing the ill treatment.

Sunita Rajwar is currently representing her film ‘Santosh’ in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. During a chat with Brut India from the event, she revealed that the entertainment industry generally typecasts actors. She explained that this process helps makers to slot them, and even actors accept it because sometimes they can’t afford to be choosy.
The seasoned actor, who has spent two decades in the industry, said that supporting actors are discriminated against and lead actors get all the perks.
While adding that she understands that lead actors have to shoot throughout the month, she said, “Lead actors are given the call time as per their convenience.”
“If you know you are not shooting with a particular artist, then call them later. What’s the need of making them sit? It’s like you are trying to shoot others down,” she added.
Sunita Rajwar reveals the conditions in television set
Rajwar also spoke about what unfolds on a TV set and said, “Lead actors are pampered. Their room will be neat, they will have a fridge, microwave. Where as others like us, we will have a small dingy room. They will make 3-4 people sit. The roof is falling down. No clean bathroom. Your bedsheet will be dirty. Seeing all this, I always felt so bad.”
The actor revealed that after many such experiences, she left the industry and even cancelled her CINTAA card. “When you do small roles, you are not respected, you are not paid well, you are treated like animals, which is so heartbreaking,” she said.
On the acting front, Sunita Rajwar is known for her roles in web series like ‘Gullak’ and ‘Panchayat’. She was last seen in the second season of ‘Panchayat’.
