Ananya Panday's Call Me Bae Spoofs Kiara-Sidharth Wedding, Has A Reference From Katrina-Vicky Nuptials

A scene from Ananya Panday's latest streaming series Call Me Bae is going viral, with fans pointing out similarities with the wedding of Bollywood stars Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra.

A scene from Ananya Panday's latest streaming series Call Me Bae is going viral, with fans pointing out striking similarities between the wedding sequence in the show and the real-life nuptials of Bollywood stars Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra. The viral clip has sparked discussions across social media, where users have drawn comparisons between the two weddings.

Ananya Panday mimicks Kiara-Sidharth wedding scene

In the scene, Ananya’s character Bella Chowdhary, also known as Bae walks to the mandap, performs a dance, and even has a moment where her on-screen husband Agastya, portrayed by Vihaan Samat, points to his watch, mimicking Sidharth’s iconic gesture from his wedding with Kiara. Their attire in the scene closely resembles what Kiara and Sidharth wore, and it even concludes with a respectful namaste at the mandap, replicating one of the first official photos of the couple's wedding.

Netizens react

Social media was abuzz with reactions. One user commented, "Kiara and Sid," while another wrote, "Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani can report copyright." Some fans were unimpressed with the recreation, with one writing, "The worst recreation. Kiara was iconic, the blouse making me angry." Many felt the show had copied too much from the original footage, with another user asking, "Why's she copying Kiara and Sid's wedding??? What is this even???"

The wedding scene is set to Jasleen Royal's 'Ranjha', the same track used during Kiara's bridal entry. The song, which became popular through the 2021 film 'Shershaah' starring Kiara and Sidharth, was also produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions—just like 'Call Me Bae', which is backed by Dharmatic Entertainment, the digital arm of the production house.

Johar had previously shared during an episode of 'Koffee With Karan' that the watch gesture came about because Kiara was significantly late for her wedding.

Call Me Bae also has Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal wedding reference

But Kiara and Sidharth’s wedding isn't the only Bollywood reference in the show. As the wedding sequence wraps up and the characters enjoy fireworks in the sky, Ananya’s voiceover humorously quips, “Those aren't fireworks. Those are just drones getting shot down.” This playful line references the rumour that drones were taken down to protect the privacy of Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal’s  2022 wedding in Jaisalmer.
