RIP! Acclaimed Filmmaker Basu Chatterjee Passes Away At 93

Basu Chatterjee breathed his last on Thursday morning in Mumbai, following age-related ailments.

Multiple award winning filmmaker-screenwriter Basu Chatterjee, best known for his critically acclaimed films like Choti Si Baat, Rajnigandha, Baaton Baaton Mein, Ek Ruka Hua Faisla and Chameli Ki Shaadi breathed his last on Thursday morning in Mumbai, following age-related ailments. He was 93. He died peacefully around 8:30 AM in the morning in his sleep. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit took to Twitter to share the sad news. He tweeted,  I am extremely grieved to inform you all the demise of Legendary Filmmaker Basu Chatterjee ji . His last rites will be performed today at Santacruz creamation at 2 pm. It’s a great loss to the industry. Will miss you Sir. #RIPBasuChaterjee.” Reportedly, his last rites will be performed today at Santacruz crematorium at 2 PM. Basu Chatterjee was born in Ajmer, Rajasthan and  started his career as an illustrator and cartoonist with the weekly tabloid Blitz published in Mumbai, by Russi Karanjia. He made his directorial debut with Sara Akash in 1969, which won him the Filmfare Best Screenplay Award. Some of his best films to be critically acclaimed are Sara Akash (1969), Piya Ka Ghar (1972), Us Paar (1974), Rajnigandha (1974), Chhoti Si Baat (1975), Chitchor (1976), Swami (1977), Khatta Meetha, Priyatama, Chakravyuha (1978 film), Jeena Yahan (1979), Baton Baton Mein (1979), Apne Paraye (1980), Shaukeen and Ek Ruka Hua Faisla. Besides making film, he also directed Byomkesh Bakshi and Rajani  for Doordarshan, both of which were successful TV serials . May his soul rest in peace! More details awaited.
