Akshay Kumar's 'BellBottom' To Release Directly On OTT? Producer Clears The Air

Akshay Kumar starrer 'BellBottom' is slated to hit the silver screens on May 28, 2021. Speculations were rife that it would released directly on a leading OTT platform.

Akshay Kumar starrer ‘BellBottom’ is one of the most highly-anticipated films of 2021. The epsionge thriller has been making waves ever since the makers announced that it would star Khiladi Kumar in a lead role. Many filmmakers have skipped the theatrical route and instead, released their movies on leading OTT platforms due to the COVID-19 crisis. Speculations were rife that ‘BellBottom’ might also premiere directly on a streaming giant.  

The production house, Pooja Entertainment, has put an end to the rumours about ‘BellBottom’ by issuing a statement. Contrary to the speculations, the upcoming movie won’t release on an OTT platform. 

Vasu Bhagnani’s production house refuted the rumours, saying that they will make an announcement regarding the release of the film at the right time.  

"Pooja Entertainment would like to quash all speculation in some sections of the media regarding the release of our upcoming film "Bellbottom". Any announcement regarding the impending release of the film will be made by Pooja Entertainment at the opportune time. Nobody other than Pooja Entertainment has the mandate to make any statements with regards to any development with the film. We would like to request the media to support us as you always have and refrain from publishing any information that is not officially communicated by us. Stay safe and mask up. Our prayers with one and all," the statement read.  

Last year, 'BellBottom' became the first Hindi film to start shooting amid the COVID-19 pandemic when shoots were stopped in India. The makers took the cast and crew to Scotland to shoot the movie.

The much-awaited flick also stars Lara Dutta, Vaani Kapoor and Huma Qureshi in key roles. The spy thriller has been produced by Pooja Entertainment and Emmay Entertainment.

‘BellBottom’ is slated to hit the silver screens on May 28; however, it is expected to get delayed due to the health crisis in India. 

Films Which Have Released On OTT

'Coolie No.1', 'Gulabo Sitabo', 'Laxmii', 'Shakuntala Devi' and 'Sadak 2' premiered directly on leading streaming platforms in 2020. Farhan Akhtar starrer 'Toofan' will release on Amazon Prime Video on May 12, 2021.

Abhishek Bachchan and Ileana D'Cruz's 'The Big Bull' also opted for direct-to-web release on April 8. The movie was originally supposed to arrive in the cinema halls but the makers opted for a digital release due to the pandemic.
