Legendary Songwriter Burt Bacharach Dies At The Age Of 94

New Delhi: US media reported on Thursday that legendary American pop songwriter Burt Bacharach, whose prodigious work created a chart-topping soundtrack for the 1960s and 1970s, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 94. (Feb 9).
On Wednesday, Bacharach passed away from natural causes at his home in the Los Angeles region, surrounded by loved ones.
His compositions included rock classics like ‘Do You Know the Way to San Jose’ and ‘Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head,’ which offered a more tranquil alternative to the music of the era.
Bacharach was a musical trailblazer and a retro icon, and his career appeared to coincide with the rise of rock & roll. In the 1950s, when he was just starting out, his musical tastes ran more towards jazz and classical than rock. Rock songwriters admired the depth of his allegedly old-fashioned taste, which sometimes appeared more linked with Tin Pan Alley than with Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and other authors who subsequently emerged.
Bacharach had fifty top-ten singles in the United Kingdom and the United States. He collaborated with legends including Sinatra, the Fab Four, Dionne Warwick, Warwick, and Franklin.
He was awarded three Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, and six Grammys in the competitive categories and was recognised as the "best living composer." In 2008, Bacharach was also awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Singer and actress Barbra Streisand took to Twitter and wrote a heartfelt tribute to Bacharach. She wrote, "Burt Bacharach was as sweet as his songs. He left us with a long legacy of music we will never forget. RIP xo B."
