Natalie Portman On Method Acting: 'A Luxury Women Cannot Afford'

New Delhi: Hollywood star Natalie Portman is not just known for her diverse filmography but also her upfront nature and championing women rights in the film industry. Recently, Natalie Portman cleared the myth around women and method acting. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the Academy-award winner shared that she likes to keep her personal and professional life separate.

The star also added that method acting is not something 'women can afford'. Apeaking to The Wall Street Journal, Natalie said, "I’ve gotten very into roles, but I think it’s honestly a luxury that women can’t afford. I don’t think that children or partners would be very understanding of, you know, me making everyone call me ‘Jackie Kennedy’ all the time.”

Natalie Portman was referring to her 2017 biographical film 'Jackie', where she portrayed the character of former US first lady Jackie Kennedy. She also received an Academy nomination for her performance in the film.

The actor also spoke at length about her preparation for Darren Aronofsky's 'Black Swan'  for which she won an Academy Award. In 'Black Swan' Natalie Portman played Nina Sayers, a ballerina whose obsessions change her personal and professional life. 

The actor has on previous occasions spoken about how much the trainng and regimen of the film affected her long after she stopped shooting for the film. 

Meanwhile, the star is receiving a lot of appreciation for critical acclaim for her most recent performance in Todd Haynes' ‘May December’, in which she plays an actor who is named Elizabeth, who follows and studies a real life person called Gracie, played by Julianne Moore. 

The film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023, is now streaming on Netflix. Natalie also attended the Golden Globe Awards where she was nominated for the Best Actor in Motion Picture( Musical or Comedy) section. Emma Stone won the award in the category for 'Poor Things'.
