Diljit Breaks Silence On Casting Hania Aamir In 'Sardaar Ji 3', Trolls Call Him 'Snake'

Hania Aamir's appearance in "Sardaar Ji 3" trailer ignited controversy due to tensions between India and Pakistan. Diljit Dosanjh clarified the film was shot before the escalation.

Almost a year after speculations began about Pakistani actor Hania Aamir making her Bollywood debut, the controversy has reignited — this time more heated than ever.

The buzz originally started when Hania joined Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh on stage during his concert, fuelling rumours that she was set to star alongside him in Sardaar Ji 3. These rumours gained ground despite later claims that Hania was dropped from the project following the Indian film industry's unofficial ban on Pakistani artists, particularly after Operation Sindoor.

However, when the trailer of Sardaar Ji 3 released this week, fans were surprised to see Hania featured prominently. This sparked a wave of trolling and outrage online, with some netizens even demanding that Diljit be removed from his upcoming Indian film Border 2.

Diljit Dosanjh Breaks Silence on Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy

In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit Dosanjh finally addressed the controversy and clarified the timeline of events. He explained that Sardaar Ji 3 was filmed well before any political tension escalated between India and Pakistan.

“Jab yeh film bani thi tab toh situation sab theek tha. Matlab jab yeh humne shoot kiya, February mein... February mein shoot kiya, tab situation theek thi, saara kuchh sahi chal raha tha,” he shared.

“Uske baad, dekho bohot saari cheezein, badi cheezein humaare haath mein nahi hai. Toh yeh producers ne decide kiya ki yeh film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh isko overseas release karte hain.”

He further added: “Toh obviously inka bohot paisa laga hua hai, aur jab yeh film ban rahi thi tab aisa kuchh tha nahi. Toh theek hai fir woh already loss, unn logo ke dimaag mein hai ki loss toh hoga hi 100%, kyunki ek territory aap usme minus kar rahe ho.”

“Toh, maine bhi jab film sign ki thi tab toh sab theek tha, toh abhi ab situations humaare haath mein hai nahi. Toh bahar release karna chahte hain, toh main unke saath hun.”

Social Media Backlash Intensifies

Despite Diljit’s clarification, a section of netizens were far from convinced. A Reddit thread featuring a clip from his interview drew heavy trolling, with some comments getting particularly extreme.

One user wrote, “Can we actually cancel his citizenship? Are there any provisions for that? I would like him to not enter this country again please 🙏🏼”

Another added, “He is rich enough to afford some loss by not releasing the film but he chose not to.”

The backlash escalated with comments like: “He is a snake and we should stop asking a snake why he bit us. Rather avoid this snake and ignore his movies.”

“Snakes' nature is to slither…” and “Jo apne desh ka nhi hua woh kisi ka nhi hota, ese gadaar hamesha rahe hai India mein.”

Some Fans Come to Diljit's Defense

Amid the trolling, a few users came forward to defend Diljit and the film’s producers. They argued that shelving the project would be unfair given the investment already made.

One user asked, “Sorry what’s the issue here? They should have shelved the film because of the war? The producers would have suffered huge losses.”

Another echoed similar sentiments: “But it's true. The film has been made, money has been lost. Why should producers lose the amount they paid? If the shooting would have started after attack then maybe they could have stopped, but this is too late. Are you going to pay the producers the amount they spent? If yes, producers will be glad to stop the release. Since you are not losing money it's easy for you to advice.”

Overseas-Only Release Confirmed

While the controversy continues to simmer, Sardaar Ji 3, which also stars Neeru Bajwa, is officially set for an overseas release only and will hit international screens on June 27. The film will not be released in Indian cinemas due to the ongoing restrictions.
