Raftaar Slams Tommy Genesis For Offensive Portrayal In ‘True Blue’ Music Video
Rapper Raftaar has criticised Tommy Genesis for her controversial video ‘True Blue’, calling it a mockery of Hinduism. The video has sparked major backlash.

Indian rapper Raftaar has voiced strong criticism against Canadian rapper of Indian descent, Tommy Genesis, following the release of her controversial music video ‘True Blue’. The video, released on June 20, has ignited widespread outrage online for what many see as a disrespectful depiction of Hindu iconography.
Raftaar Calls Out Disrespect to Faith
Raftaar took to his Instagram Stories on Sunday to denounce the video, expressing his anger at what he considers religious mockery. In the video, Tommy Genesis appears painted in blue, adorned in gold jewellery, and wearing a red bindi—an appearance that many viewers believe resembles a Hindu goddess. Adding fuel to the backlash, she also uses a cross as a prop in a manner that viewers have found offensive.
Sharing a screenshot of his report to YouTube, Raftaar wrote “Report This” and captioned it with, “This is a mockery of my religion. This shouldn’t exist.” His message was a call to action, encouraging followers to flag the video on YouTube in hopes of having it removed from the platform.
Tommy Genesis Faces Widespread Outrage
Tommy Genesis, whose full name is Genesis Yasmine Mohanraj, has roots tracing back to India. Her video has offended viewers from multiple communities due to its provocative visuals, which include making inappropriate gestures like licking the cross while dressed in what resembles Hindu iconography.
One viewer commented, “There’s a line between creative expression and blatant disrespect — and this crosses it. Capitalism or clout-chasing doesn't justify mocking someone’s faith. Do better.” Another critic wrote, “A very dumb video and a very dumb story to justify it. This in no way is representation of roots or your vision, if you call this vision its crooked.” Several others dismissed the video outright with comments such as “This is not art” and “Take it down.”
Growing Debate Over Cultural Insensitivity in Art
The controversy around ‘True Blue’ has reignited discussions about artistic freedom versus cultural insensitivity. Many netizens argue that while artists have creative liberty, it should not come at the cost of offending religious sentiments. Neither Tommy Genesis nor her team has issued a public statement addressing the backlash as of yet.
With Raftaar’s high-profile criticism amplifying the public reaction, it remains to be seen whether platforms or the artist herself will respond to the growing demands for the video’s removal.
