'Doctors Warned Me': Nawazuddin Siddiqui On Losing Himself In Psycho Raman Character

In a career spanning decades, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has become synonymous with intense, transformative performances that leave a lasting impact.

In a career spanning decades, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has become synonymous with intense, transformative performances that leave a lasting impact. Known for his unmatched versatility, the actor has portrayed a variety of complex characters—each etched into the audience's memory.

But behind his seemingly effortless portrayals lies a deep commitment to craft. In a recent conversation with Just Too Filmy, Nawazuddin opened up about the immersive and often taxing process he undergoes to bring his characters to life.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui talks about preparing for his characters

Recalling his role as Tehmur Langda in Aamir Khan’s Talaash, Nawaz shared, “I changed my physicality to play the character in Talaash. The character in the film is very fast and he has a limp, and when he talks, his eyes get big. I am a calm and cool guy but to play that character I had to bring in these things.”

He also spoke about his celebrated role as Faisal in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur, highlighting the physical discomfort he willingly endured to heighten authenticity. “I would put glycerin in my eyes, not to cry but so that my eyes would get red and some pain is visible in them,” he explained.

However, it was while portraying the chilling character in Psycho Raman that Nawaz experienced an intense blurring of lines between performance and reality.

He revealed, “While shooting for Psycho Raman I got ill and was admitted to hospital. I fainted on the set and was taken to hospital. I was so much into the character at that time that I would say the film’s dialogues while I was on the hospital bed, I didn’t realise it, I was told by people around me that I was doing this. Doctors warned me to come out of the character and take care of myself otherwise it will be problem.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui's work front

On the work front, Nawazuddin was last seen in Zee5’s Costao, which garnered mixed reviews, though his performance was lauded. He is now gearing up for his next project, Raat Akeli Hai 2, which will premiere on Netflix.
