Fans were excited for a mix of cultural style and inclusivity. However, it was clear that foreign media still struggles to fully recognise global stars.

A viral video from Vogue's red carpet coverage showed two interviewers fumbling during their interaction with Shah Rukh Khan, one of the most iconic film stars globally. The conversation quickly became awkward as the interviewers struggled to pronounce Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s name and stumbled through unprepared questions. One interviewer, seemingly unaware of their significance, asked, "And this is the designer tonight?" while looking at Shah Rukh Khan and Sabyasachi. 

Sabyasachi then took the mic and explained, "Just to give you some context, Shah Rukh Khan is probably one of the most famous men in the world, and his fan following is legendary. We nearly had a stampede outside the hotel when he came out.” The tension was obvious, both for the stars being ignored and for Indian fans watching this moment unfold.

Fans took to the internet to voice their displeasure, with a Reddit thread titled “Hope SRK and other stars don’t go to these international events…”. The thread was filled with a mix of frustration and outrage, as users expressed their disappointment over the treatment of their icons.

A fan wrote, “Should they have done a little homework on the guest list? Maybe, yeah. Is that even a thing? I don’t know! Should the photographers have covered all the guests equally? Hell yes!” A comment read, “Fr. The Ambanis and Bollywood welcomed Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and many other celebrities during the Ambani wedding and gave them the best hospitality and care that they could have and yet the met gala coverage barely gave a shit about SRK and Diljit and Kiara and didn’t even research about SRK properly.” Another user wrote, “Hopefully we are not such bootlickers of the West still, in the year 2025, that we dont understand that blame for this is NOT on us but them. This is the level of American interviewers. And idc if it's Teyana or xyz. No preparation, no nothing. Like this ain't your Oscars, Grammys or VMAs. People from around the world come in and therefore the least you can do is prepare a bit, show some respect. And if you aren't up for the job, don't do it.”
