Folk Legend Sharda Sinha’s Last Rites Performed With Full State Honours In Patna

After Sharda Sinha passed away on Tuesday night at Delhi AIIMS, her body was flown to Patna on an Indigo flight so her fans could bid farewell. Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that the singer’s last rites would be performed with state honours in Patna.

Sharda Sinha’s son, Anshuman Sinha, also shared that her body would arrive in Patna around 9:40 am. He also said, ""We have decided that the last rites of my mother (Sharda Sinha) will take place at the same place where my father's last rite was performed... Therefore, we will take her mortal remains to Patna tomorrow.”

Sharda Sinha’s death

Sharda Sinha’s death on the first day of Chhath Puja, a festival for which she is famous, has added to the grief of her fans. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute, recognising her impact on Indian folk music, especially her popular songs for Chhath Puja. He mentioned that her music will live on during the festival and beyond.

Sharda Sinha, who had been receiving treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 72.

An AIIMS official confirmed that she died at 9:20 pm due to refractory shock caused by septicemia.

Sharda Sinha was known for her folk songs, including ‘Kartik Maas Ijoriya’ and ‘Koyal Bin’. She also gained recognition for her Bollywood tracks, such as ‘Taar Bijli’ from ‘Gangs of Wasseypur- II’ and ‘Babul’ from ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’.
