Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, And Shah Rukh Khan Issued Notice In Gutka Commercial Case
Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Akshay Kumar each received show-cause notices from the Center.
New Delhi: Ajay Devgn, Shahrukh Khan, and Akshay Kumar have received notice from the central government about their gutka company ads, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad Court was informed in response to a contempt suit.
On Friday, the counsel representing the Center told the High Court that the instant petition should be dismissed because the Supreme Court was also hearing the same case.
The bench scheduled the hearing for May 9, 2024, after reviewing the submission.
A bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan had earlier directed the central government to decide the representation of the petitioner, who had originally contended that action should be taken against the actors and dignitaries who were given high-profile awards but were advertising for gutka companies.
Petitioner claimed that after making the representation to the government on October 22, nothing was done about it. Following the hearing of the contempt lawsuit, the high court sent a notice to the central government's Cabinet Secretary.
Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Akshay Kumar each received show-cause notices from the Center, the Deputy Solicitor General SB Pandey told the High Court on Friday.
Even though he had previously terminated his contract with the gutka maker, Amitabh Bachchan had submitted a legal notice to the company because it was still airing his advertising, the court was also told.
On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan was last seen in 'Jawan' alongside Nayanthara, and Vijay Sethupathi in major roles, with Deepika Padukone making a cameo appearance. The film broke multiple records and did phenomenally well at the box office. Akshay Kumar starrer in 'Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue', also featuring Parineeti Chopra. Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn will star in 'Singham Again', the latest addition to Rohit Shetty's cop world. Ajay Devgn's 'Singham' (2011), Akshay Kumar's 'Sooryavanshi' (2021), and Ranveer Singh's 'Simmba' (2018) comprise Rohit's cop universe.
