Telugu Actor, Dalit Intellectual Kathi Mahesh Dies At 43; Sudheer Babu, Nani & Other Celebs Mourn His Death

Kathi Mahesh on Saturday died in a Chennai hospital while undergoing treatment for injuries suffered in an accident a fortnight ago in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district.

Chennai: Popular actor and film critic Kathi Mahesh who was undergoing treatment in a Chennai hospital died today succumbing to sever injuries that he suffered in an accident a fortnight ago in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district.

Mourning on Mahesh’s demise, Tollywood actor Manchu Manoj said, "Shocked and saddened to hear the news about the demise of Kathi Mahesh. My deep condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace! Om Shanti." 

Actor Nani tweeted, "Shocked to hear that Kathi Mahesh gaaru passed away. From what I’ve seen, he always tried to encourage films with unique content through his reviews. Strength to his family and friends."

Remembering the actor, Sudheer Babu said, another young star in the Telugu movie industry called Mahesh's untimely a shock to the industry.

On June 26, Mahesh, while travelling on the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway in Kodavalur Mandal in Nellore district, his car hit a container truck at the rear causing him serious injuries.

Many believed the film critic would survive but he succumbed to his injuries.

Mahesh was an outspoken critic of actor-politician and founder of Janasena party and was known for his comments and observations on various subjects. He was popularly known as a film critic, political analyst, satirist, and Dalit intellectual.

An alumni of the University of Hyderabad, Mahesh had acted in several movies.

"The news of #KathiMahesh passing away comes as a shocker. May his family find strength in these tough times", says Sudheer Babu.

As an intellectual from the Dalit community, Mahesh had campaigned and supported for their rights and protection regularly.

Mahesh Kathi gained fame over the last few years for his sharp reviews on Telugu cinema.
