BJP Names 7 Candidates For UP Bypolls, Fields Anujesh Yadav Against Lalu Yadav's Son-In-Law

The BJP has named seven candidates for the upcoming elections. The Karhal bypoll fight is going to be a contest between two members of the 'Yadav family of UP'.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named seven candidates for the UP bypolls. Among the notable names was that of Anujesh Yadav who has been pitted against UP's 'Yadav family' scion Tej Pratap Singh Yadav in Karhal. Tej Pratap Singh Yadav is Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's relative and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's son-in-law. Tej Pratap is also a former MP from Mainpuri.

Notably, Anujesh is also a member of the 'Yadav family' of UP and is related to Akhilesh Yadav. However, he switched to the BJP along with his wife Sandhya in 2021. Sandhya is Akhilesh Yadav's cousin and Badaun MP Dharmendra Yadav's twin sister. On the other hand, Tej Pratap's grandfather Ratan Singh Yadav, was the elder brother of Akhilesh's father and SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The Karhal Assembly seat was vacated by Akhilesh Yadav when he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Kannauj constituency.

Tej Pratap has already filed his nomination for the Karhal bypoll on an SP ticket.

The by-elections, set for November 13, will cover nine constituencies: Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar), Karhal (Mainpuri), Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar), Ghaziabad, Majhawan (Mirzapur), Sishamau (Kanpur), Khair (Aligarh), Phulpur (Prayagraj), and Kundarki (Moradabad). The majority of these seats were vacated as their MLAs moved to Parliament, while the Sishamau seat became vacant following the disqualification of SP MLA Irfan Solanki after his criminal conviction.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak said: "BJP will emerge victorious on all nine (Assembly) seats. People are impressed by the policies of PM Modi and law and order and infrastructure of Uttar Pradesh."

The Election Commission announced by-elections for these nine constituencies, excluding Milkipur (Ayodhya), with the final date for candidate nominations set for October 25. Vote counting will occur on November 23.

The Samajwadi Party has already named its candidates for Karhal, Sisamau, Phulpur, Milkipur, Katehari, Majhawan, and Meerapur.
