TMC Names 6 Candidates For West Bengal Bypolls

The TMC named Sangita Roy from Sitai seat, Jay Prakash Toppo from Madarihat, Falguni Singhababu from Taldangra, Sujoy Hazra from Medinipur, Sk. Rabiul Islam from Haroa and Senat Dey from Naihati.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Sunday released a list of six candidates for the by-election on assembly seats in West Bengal. The bypolls to six assembly seats in West Bengal will be held on November 13, while the results will be declared on November 23.

The party named Sangita Roy from Sitai (SC) seat, Jay Prakash Toppo from Madarihat, Falguni Singhababu from Taldangra, Sujoy Hazra from Medinipur, Sk. Rabiul Islam from Haroa and Senat Dey from Naihati.

The bypolls were necessitated due to the resignations of sitting MLAs of the six assembly segments following their victory in this year's Lok Sabha elections.

The bypoll on Sitai seat is being held due to the resignation of Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia, while the Madarihat seat fell vacant after the resignation of Manoj Tigga.

The Naihati assembly seat fell vacant after the resignation of Partha Bhowmick, while the bypoll to Haroa seat is being held after the resignation of SK Nurul Islam.

Similarly, the Medinipur seat fell vacant after the resignation of June Maliah and the Taldangra seat after the resignation of Arup Chakraborty.

The TMC won five of these seats in the 2021 assembly polls, except for Madarihat, which was held by the BJP.

The Last date of making nominations is October 25, while the date for scrutiny of nominations is October 28. The last date for the
withdrawal of candidatures is October 30 and the date of polling is November 13.

The bypoll to the Wayanad parliamentary seat and 47 assembly seats will be held on November 13 along with phase one elections for the Jharkhand Assembly.

The 48 assembly constituencies and two Lok Sabha seats where bypolls are being held are spread across 15 states - Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Punjab, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Sikkim.
