'Makkari' and 'adakari' won't work: Rahul Gandhi takes poetic dig at PM Modi

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday once again taunted Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his "Chowkidar Chor Hai" jibe saying his "trickery" won't work in front of people as they are already aware of the reality.

NEW DELHI: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday once again taunted Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his "Chowkidar Chor Hai" jibe saying his "trickery" won't work in front of people as they are already aware of the reality. Taking a "poetic" dig at Modi, Gandhi wrote on Twitter: "Haqeeqat Ru-baru ho to, Adakaari nahi chalti; Janata ke saamne chowkidar, makkari nahi chalti." Congress president Rahul Gandhi has been targeting Modi over alleged irregularities in the Rafale fighter jet deal. He has often used the "Chowkidar Chor Hai" slogan while accusing the prime minister of wrongdoings in the deal. Modi had launched the "Main Bhi Chowkidar" (I too am a watchman) campaign to blunt the Congress's "Chowkidar Chor Hai" (the watchman is a thief) jibe at him. He had prefixed his Twitter handle with 'chowkidar' and all BJP leaders followed suit. Also, Gandhi's dig at Modi came on a day after the Supreme Court slapped a contempt notice on the Congress President for wrongly attributing his "Chowkidar Chor Hai" remark on the Rafale deal to the top court. Gandhi had claimed that the Supreme Court had acknowledged that "chowkidar chor hai", a slogan he uses to target Modi. The BJP took objection to this and its MP Meenakshi Lekhi moved a contempt of court petition in the apex court. While hearing the petition, a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, had taken strong exception to Gandhi's comment, saying he had "incorrectly attributed" the remarks to the top court. It had sought explanation from Gandhi for the same, which was done on Monday.
