Here’s All About Akash Anand

  • Last December, Mayawati had designated Akash Anand, aged 28 and holding an MBA from London, as her heir apparent, entrusting him with the position of the party’s National Coordinator.
  • Akash recently hit headlines after a case of alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. This occurred after Anand delivered a speech at an election rally, during which he likened the BJP government in the state to the Taliban.
  • The registration of the Model Code of Conduct violated the case against Akash and four others that took place after the district administration’s reaction to Anand’s statements made at the rally.
  • “This government is a bulldozer government and a government of traitors. The party that leaves its youth hungry and enslaves its elderly is a terrorist government. Taliban runs such a government in Afghanistan,” Anand reportedly asserted during his address.
  • Anand also referenced a National Crime Records Bureau report indicating 16,000 kidnapping incidents in the state, accusing the government of neglecting the safety of women and children.
  • He further alleged, “The BJP is a party of thieves who took Rs 16,000 crores through electoral bonds”.
  • The case was registered against Anand, along with party candidates Mahendra Yadav, Shyam Awasthi, and Akshay Kalra, as well as rally organiser Vikas Rajvanshi, news agency PTI reported citing Superintendent of Police (Sitapur) Chakresh Mishra.
  • It is to be noted that the BSP supremo is three times a Rajya Sabha MP and four times a Lok Sabha MP. As per the election affidavit of 2012 (Rajya Sabha), Mayawati has assets worth ₹111.64 crores and liabilities worth ₹87.68 lakhs (0.87 crores).
