Mallikarjun Kharge Slams PM For 'Ignoring' Underprivileged, Promises Welfare Initiatives Ahead Of Lok Sabha Elections

Mallikarjun Kharge pledged to provide apprenticeship opportunities to youth, fill 30 lakh vacant government positions and enforce 50% reservation for women in government jobs.

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for neglecting the rights and welfare of the underprivileged citizens in the nation on Friday. He said that PM Modi failed to focus on the nationwide census so Congress would conduct the census if voted to power in Lok Sabha elections 2024. Addressing a press conference, Kharge pledged to provide apprenticeship opportunities to youth, fill 30 lakh vacant government positions and enforce 50% reservation for women in government jobs.

On Friday, Mallikarjun Kharge said, "We had given a few guarantees during the Assembly elections in the state. We have fulfilled five guarantees so far, just one remains because MCC is in effect...We implemented every scheme and proved ourselves that we do what we say...As the Congress president I assure you that we promise only what we can fulfill..."

Further, Kharge said, "We are giving the guarantee of apprenticeship to the youth. We will also provide those 30 lakh vacant posts in government to the youth... We will give 50% reservation to women in government jobs... will work to strengthen the labour laws for the unorganised workers. This Modi government is only for the rich people. It does not work for the poor..."

The press conference comes a day after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi campaigned in Telangana and travelled in a state corporation bus along with the public on Thursday. Telangana is set to vote in Lok Sabha elections on May 13.
