New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, speaking on the Karnataka Assembly election results said the poll outcome shows “brute authoritarian and majoritarian politics” has been vanquished and when people want “democratic forces to win, no central design can dominate them.”
“My salutations to the people of Karnataka for their decisive mandate in favour of change!! Brute authoritarian and majoritarian politics is vanquished!! It is to be noted that Congress is set to return to power as Karnataka maintained its 38-year trend of never voting the incumbent party to power since 1985. The results come as a big boost to the grand old party ahead of the elections due in five more states this year — Telangana, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

The Karnataka results assume significance also because the BJP has now lost its foothold in the south and will face a tough challenge in the upcoming Telangana polls. Karnataka registered a "record" turnout of 73.19 per cent in the voting on May 10.
Speaking on the results, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the party's impressive performance in the Karnataka election is the victory of "Janata Janardhan". “All our leaders have worked unitedly and people have voted for our guarantees. This is the victory of Janata Janardhan,” news agency PTI quoted Kharge as saying.
