Karnataka Polls: BJP To Finalise Candidates Tomorrow, Says Cong Won't Cross Majority Mark
Karnataka CM Bommai said the BJP's State Election Committee has shortlisted three names per constituency and the Parliamentary Board will finalise the list of candidates on April 8.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said the BJP's State Election Committee has shortlisted three names per constituency for the May 10 Assembly polls and the Parliamentary Board will meet in New Delhi on April 8 to discuss and finalise the list of candidates, as reported by the news agency PTI. The Chief Minister is leaving for New Delhi this evening.
"Tomorrow our Parliamentary Board meeting is there (in Delhi). After discussions today and tomorrow (on candidates) the Parliamentary Board will meet to finalise," Bommai said, as quoted by PTI.
Speaking to reporters, he said, "Opinions have been gathered from constituency and district level, after which the State Election Committee has discussed and has shortlisted three names (per constituency), it will be discussed and finalised by the Parliamentary Board in Delhi." Ticket aspirants are waiting for the BJP to announce the list of candidates, with election date approaching.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said that Congress party needs to come to power by securing a majority to make DK Shivakumar or Siddaramaiah the CM. He further said that Congress will never be able to cross the majority mark.
"Congress party needs to come to power by securing a majority to make DK Shivakumar or Siddaramaiah the CM. They can never become the CM as Congress will never be able to cross the majority mark, so there is no question of them becoming the CM," Pralhad Joshi said, as quoted by ANI.

Election notification will be issued on April 13, while the last date for filing nominations is April 20. The Congress has announced candidates for 166 out of total 224 seats, while JD(S) has announced one list of 93 candidates. Following the clash that broke out between BJP and Congress supporters on April 6, section 144 of CrPC imposed in the Shorapur constituency of Yadgir district for two days. The orders were issued by the District Collector of Yadgir.
