National Conference Releases Manifesto For J-K Polls, Promises Repealing PSA, 1 Lakh Jobs

The National Conference promised repealing the Public Safety Act (PSA), 1 lakh jobs, 6 free cylinders to EWS category and free travel for women in public transport.

The National Conference on Monday released its manifesto for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

The party, led by party vice-president Omar Abdullah, promised repealing the Public Safety Act (PSA), 1 lakh jobs, 6 free cylinders to EWS category and free travel for women in public transport.

The party also promised to release political prisoners, commitment to dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits, ease passport verification, end unjust terminations and stopping 'unnecessary harassment' to people on Highways.

The pre-poll promise also included J&K Youth Employment Generation Act to be passed within three months, enhance marriage assistance, increased medical allowance of pensioners to Rs 1000 from Rs 300, establishment of Minority commission and strengthening of the PDS.

The manifesto was released during a press meet by National Conference leader Omar Abdullah in the presence of senior leaders.

While releasing the manifesto at a press conference in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah said the party is making only those promises it can deliver. He described the manifesto as the NC's vision document and a roadmap for governance.

"The manifesto makes 12 broad promises, including striving for the full implementation of the Autonomy Resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in 2000.We strive to restore (Articles) 370-35A, and statehood as prior to August 5, 2019," the NC poll document said.

The NC had formed a committee led by former Jammu and Kashmir finance minister and senior leader Abdul Rahim Rather to draft the manifesto. The committee also included other senior leaders, including the party’s Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi.

The three-phase elections to the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will be held on September 18, September 25 and October 1. The results will be declared on October 4.
