'Deliberate Pressure To Malign': After Atishi's Attack On Rajiv Kumar, Election Commission Hits Back

The Election Commission has alleged that attempts to malign the poll body are afoot amid the Delhi Elections. The allegation follows an attack by CM Atishi accusing CEC of ruining the poll process.

The Election Commission has alleged that there have been efforts to malign the poll body. A three-member Commission collectively noted repeated deliberate pressure tactics to malign the ECI in Delhi Elections, as if it is a single-member body." The EC further said that it has decided to have "constitutional restraint, absorbing such outbursts with sagacity, stoically, and not to be swayed by such insinuations".

It also clarified that actions on issues raised by political parties and candidates are taken in each instance by over 1.5 lakh officials working in Delhi to ensure fairness in the Delhi assembly.

The Election Commission's remarks come after Delhi Chief Minister Atishi launched a direct attack against Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday morning. Atishi accused Kumar of ruining the polling process after a case was registered against her over an incident in Govindpuri on Monday night.

In a sarcastic remark, she said on X: "Election Commission is amazing. Ramesh Bidhuriji's family members are openly violating the code of conduct. No action is being taken against them. I filed a complaint and called the police and Election Commission, and they filed a case against me. Rajiv Kumarji, how much will you ruin the electoral process."

Atishi further alleged that the police and the BJP were intimidating AAP workers who were making a video of the flouting of 'Model Code of Conduct' by the saffron party. She said the SHO had assaulted AAP workers. "When I approached the flying squad of the Election Commission, the officials asked me to lodge a complaint against the SHO with the SHO himself," Atishi said.
