Political Immaturity, Desperation: TMC Hits Back After Kejriwal Says Party Not Even In Race In Goa

Goa Election 2022: TMC said it should be left to the people of Goa to decide who should be taken seriously.

New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's remarks that the party was not even in the race in Goa reflected the AAP chief's "political immaturity and desperation".

TMC said it should be left to the people of Goa to decide who should be taken seriously.

"We firmly believe in WORKING FOR PEOPLE and STANDING BESIDE THEM through thick and thin. Those indulging in election forecasting and vote share predictions are simply reflecting their political immaturity and desperation. Let the people of Goa decide who should be taken seriously!" the TMC tweeted.

The development comes days after AAP leader Atishi said the party won't enter into an alliance with the Trinamool Congress for next year's Goa Assembly election.

Asked about a pre-poll alliance with TMC in Goa, Arvind Kejriwal said in Panaji that the Mamata Banerjee-led party was "not even in the race".

"There are 1,350 parties in the country, should I start mentioning everyone," the Delhi CM said.

"I think you people give a lot of importance to TMC. I think TMC doesn't have even a 1% vote share as of now. It came to Goa only three months back, democracy doesn't work like this. You need to work hard, you need to work among people," ANI quoted Kejriwal as saying.

Speaking to reporters in Goa, Kejriwal said a party cannot win an election "merely on the strength of posters".

"You need to work and take your achievement to the people while asking for votes," Kejriwal said while assuring a "corruption-free and honest" government in Goa if the AAP was voted to power in the coastal state.

Reacting to Kejriwal's comments, senior TMC leader and state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said it was made out of "local compulsion" of Goa politics. "We don't attach much importance to it," PTI quoted Kunal Ghosh as saying.

In the 2017 election, AAP failed to win a single seat in the 40-member House.

The TMC, which has made an aggressive entry into the Goa political space by inducting several leaders, mostly from the Congress, has announced that it would contest all the seats in the upcoming polls.
