'A Pablo Escobar Is Running Delhi Govt': BJP's Dig At Kejriwal For Refusing To Resign As CM
The BJP has compared Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal with Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, accusing him of being the kingpin of the alleged liquor policy scam.
The BJP on Saturday took a dig at Arvind Kejriwal and his party, the Aam Aadmi Party, drawing parallels with Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar and the Delhi CM. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said a gang was being run from Tihar jail. "You must have heard about Pablo Escobar... It is the misfortune of Delhi that one such Pablo Escobar in Delhi is running the government from jail with 'kattar besharmi (absolute shamelessness)'," Shehzad Poonawalla said in an apparent reference to the AAP's plank of 'kattar imaandaari (absolute honesty) when it came to power.
Poonawalla said, "In Delhi, neither lakhs of children nor their future is safe. The attempt is just to ensure the safety of the kingpin of the liquor scam... At the Ramleela Maidan in Delhi, we had seen a few people who had come to transform politics. But at this same Ramleela Maidan, we are seeing the faces of a few people who underwent political conversion - from 'jhaadu [broom]' to 'daaru [liquor]', from 'swaraj [independence]' to 'sharab [alcohol]', from Anna Hazare to Lalu. Those who started from India Against Corruption have now reached the I.N.D.I.Alliance of corruption..." "Today, the Delhi High Court is asking tough questions to the Government of Delhi," he added.

Poonawalla's remarks come close on the heels of the Delhi High Court that slammed the AAP government for failing to supply of books to children studying in MCD schools. It said Arvind Kejriwal continuing as the CM after his arrest displayed a preference of political interest over national interest. According to the court, the Delhi government was "interested in appropriation of power".
Soon after the court's observation, the BJP lashed out at the Delhi CM, demanding his resignation. BJP leader Majinder Singh Sirsa said, “Arvind Kejriwal is greedy for power. He is concerned more about his personal interests than the national interest. These are not my words. Delhi High Court has remarked this when they said that Delhi's education model is a failure.”
