12 Graves Damaged After DTC Bus Crashes Into Cemetery In Central Delhi's Khan Market Area
A cluster bus in Delhi rammed through the walls of a cemetery in the Khan market area, and 12 graves were damaged in the accident.
New Delhi: A cluster bus crashed into a cemetery in central Delhi's Khan Market area on Saturday morning with only the driver and conductor aboard. 10 to 12 graves were harmed in the mishap, Eugene Ratnam, secretary of the Delhi Cemetery Committee, as saying. Pictures and videos of the accident and showcasing a major part of the bus being inside the cemetery wall are doing rounds on social media.
"There are two caretakers who live with their families inside the premises. They live on opposite sides of the cemetery. They heard a loud noise and saw the bus inside the cemetery after tearing down a portion of the wall. They immediately informed us about the incident. Some families have come to check the damage to the graves," news agency PTI quoted Eugene Ratnam as saying.
He added that the committee will help in the cleaning and the repair of both the cemetery and the graves.
The bus has been removed from the crash site and a thorough mechanical inspection of the vehicle is being done to identify the cause of the accident that occurred at around 6 am, said a police official, as per PTI. He added that appropriate action will be taken if anyone is found to be guilty.

In the Naraina neighbourhood of west Delhi, a DTC bus hit a car last month before slamming through a subway crossing. The bus conductor, driver, and marshal were deployed at the spot during the time of the accident. All of them sustained injuries in that accident. After dropping off all of the passengers at the stop, the bus headed in the direction of the Naraina depot. The bus's brake system had malfunctioned, and the driver later reported it to the police.
