Bengal Woman Raped, Tortured For Week With Hot Dal Poured On Her By Friend In Delhi

A woman from West Bengal's Darjeeling was allegedly raped and tortured by her friend for a week in Delhi. The accused has been arrested.

A woman was allegedly raped in Delhi for a week by her friend who also thrashed and tortured her by ‘pouring hot dal’, reported news agency PTI. The accused has been identified as 28-year-old, Paras. He was arrested on February 2 over charges of rape, sodomy, and causing hurt.

The woman, who hails from West Bengal’s Darjeeling, had been staying with Paras for around a month. They stayed in a rented accommodation in Raju Park in south Delhi's Neb Sarai area.

The incident came to light on January 30, when the police received a PCR call informing them that a woman was being thrashed by her husband. The woman had approximately 20 visible injuries, she was rescued and rushed to AIIMS. She has since been discharged.

"When police enquired about the matter, the victim stated that she hailed from Darjeeling in West Bengal and came in contact with the accused over the phone," a senior police officer was quoted as saying by PTI.

The woman had befriended Paras and was in touch with him for the last 3-4 months.

She was scheduled to travel to Bengaluru in the first week of January to begin her new job as a housemaid. Since her train passed through Delhi, she decided to stop by to meet her friend Paras. He convinced her to stay in the city and even assured to help her find a job. Assured by him, she stayed with him in a rented accommodation in Raju Park.

However, as days went by he turned abusive, with Paras purportedly subjecting her to physical and sexual violence, including pouring hot ‘dal’ over her, which resulted in burn injuries.

Based on the woman's complaint, the police registered an FIR on January 30 under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape) and 377 (sodomy) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested the accused on February 2, the police officer further said. Paras hails from Uttarakhand and worked as a cook at an eatery, according to the PTI report. Police said that further probe was underway.
