IPL 2025: Ever Noticed Sanskrit Writing On IPL Trophy? Here's What It Means

The IPL trophy does not stay with the winning captain or franchise; it is returned to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the presentation ceremony.

The Indian Premier League (IPL), which began in 2008, is set to enter its 18th season on March 22, with 10 teams competing for the prestigious IPL trophy.

A unique feature of the trophy is the Sanskrit inscription "Yatra Pratibha Avsara Prapnotihi," which translates to "Where talent meets opportunity" - a philosophy the Indian Premier League (IPL) has upheld by nurturing young cricketers over the years.

Interestingly, the trophy does not stay with the winning captain or franchise; it is returned to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the presentation ceremony, and a replica is given to the victorious team.

Also, a new IPL trophy is not created each year. Instead, the same trophy is used, with the champion team's name added after every final. A new design is introduced only when there is no space left for further inscriptions.

BCCI announces IPL 2025 schedule

The IPL 2025 schedule has been officially announced, featuring 74 matches, including 70 league-stage games and four playoff encounters. The tournament kicks off on March 22 with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) facing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

The first Sunday of the season, March 23, will feature two high-profile clashes - Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) taking on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the afternoon, followed by the "El Clasico" of IPL between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai. These two fierce rivals will meet again in the league stage on April 20.

Delhi Capitals (DC) will begin their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Visakhapatnam on March 24, while Gujarat Titans (GT) will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Ahmedabad on March 25.

The league stage will run from March 22 to May 18, followed by the playoffs from May 20 to May 25. Matches will be played across 13 venues, with 12 double-header days scheduled. On these days, the first match will start at 3:30 PM IST, while the second will begin at 7:30 PM IST.
