Delhi Election Results LIVE Updates: The vote counting for the Delhi Assembly elections is set to commence on Saturday, determining whether the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secures a third consecutive term or if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reclaims power in the national capital after 27 years. The Congress, which failed to win a single seat in the last two elections, is also aiming for a resurgence. Stay tuned for LIVE updates.

Counting will begin at 8 am across 19 centres in 11 districts. Shahdara, Central Delhi, East, South, and Southwest districts have one counting centre each, while North, West, Northeast, and Southeast districts have two. New Delhi and Northwest districts have three centres each.

On the eve of results, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s residence witnessed high drama as the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) visited to seek details regarding his allegations that the BJP attempted to poach AAP candidates. Kejriwal did not meet the officials at his 5, Ferozeshah Road bungalow, leading them to serve him a legal notice demanding proof of his claims. The development follows an ACB probe ordered by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

Kejriwal accused the Election Commission of refusing to upload Form 17C, which records booth-wise voting numbers, on its website. The Commission denied the claim, asserting that all legal procedures had been followed.

Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R. Alice Vaz clarified that as per Rule 49S of the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961, all presiding officers had provided Form 17C copies to polling agents on election day. The Commission also stated that a scrutiny of election documents from all 70 constituencies was conducted, and since no candidates raised objections, there was no need for a repoll.

Delhi Assembly Election Results LIVE: AAP, BJP Confident of Victory

Both AAP and BJP have expressed confidence in forming the next government. AAP leader Gopal Rai predicted a victory in over 50 seats based on internal reports. “Under Kejriwal’s leadership, our candidates have submitted reports indicating a decisive win, with close contests in 7-8 seats,” Rai said, dismissing exit polls favouring BJP as misleading.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa claimed the saffron party would win 52-56 seats. “AAP is already making excuses for its defeat. Their MLA Mukesh Kumar Ahlawat claimed he received a poaching call, but he himself called that number twice. People are fed up with AAP’s lies,” he told ANI.

Delhi Assembly Polls Results LIVE: Exit Polls Give Edge To BJP, AAP Dismisses Projections

Several exit polls have predicted a BJP edge over AAP, which has governed Delhi since 2015. However, AAP has rejected these projections, maintaining that Kejriwal will return as chief minister.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva expressed confidence in securing nearly 50 seats. The BJP has demanded that AAP retract its poaching allegations and issue an apology or face legal action. BJP general secretary Vishnu Mittal has written to the Lt Governor requesting an ACB probe into AAP’s accusations.

Security has been strengthened at all counting centres. Delhi’s CEO Alice Vaz stated that 5,000 personnel, including supervisors, assistants, micro-observers, and support staff, are deployed. A three-tier security arrangement includes 10,000 police personnel and two paramilitary companies at each centre.

Special Commissioner of Police Devesh Chandra Srivastava assured that strict measures were in place. “Only authorised personnel will be allowed inside counting centres, where mobile phones are strictly prohibited,” he said.

DCP West Delhi Vichitra Veer added, “Three-layered security is deployed outside strong rooms. We have identified sensitive spots and will conduct flag marches to ensure peace. There will be some movement restrictions around counting centres.”

The majority mark in the 70-member Assembly is 36. In 2020, AAP won 62 seats, while BJP secured eight. In 2015, AAP had a landslide victory with 67 seats and a 54.6 per cent vote share.

In the May 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP secured 54 per cent of the vote share across all 70 Assembly segments. Congress outperformed AAP, garnering 24 per cent compared to AAP’s 19 per cent.

The voter turnout for the February 5 elections stood at 60.42 per cent, lower than the 62.82 per cent in 2020 and significantly below the 67.47 per cent recorded in 2015.

An AAP victory would cement Kejriwal’s dominance in Delhi politics and boost his national stature. A BJP win, however, would mark its return to power in Delhi after 27 years, ending AAP’s decade-long rule. Congress, which governed the capital for 15 years until 2013, hopes for a political comeback after successive electoral losses.
