PM Modi's France, US Visits From Feb 10-13: To Co-Chair AI Action Summit, Hold Talks With Macron And Trump
PM Modi will visit France for the AI Action Summit and bilateral talks with President Macron. Afterward, he will visit the US for a working visit, marking his first during Trump's second term.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on official visits to France and the United States from February 10 to 13, 2025, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated at a press conference in Delhi. "At the invitation of Emmanuel Macron, PM Modi will be visiting France from February 10-12, 2025. This visit is on the occasion of the organisation of the AI Action Summit that France is organising, and the PM will co-chair this summit alongside President Macron of France. The visit will also include a substantial bilateral component," Misri informed.
The Prime Minister will arrive in Paris on the evening of February 10 and attend a dinner hosted by the French President. Following the AI Summit, Modi and Macron will hold a bilateral summit and address the India-France CEO's Forum. "They will also have discussions in both the restricted and delegation-level talks format. This visit will also take the PM out of Paris… The two leaders will also take the opportunity to jointly inaugurate the newest consulate general of India in Marseille," Misri added.
After concluding his France visit, Modi will head to the United States for an official working visit on February 12-13. This will mark his first visit to the US after President Donald Trump begins his second term. "The PM would be among the first few world leaders to visit the US following the inauguration of President Trump. The fact that the Prime Minister has been invited to visit the US within barely three weeks of the new administration taking office shows the importance of the India-US partnership and is also reflective of the bipartisan support that this partnership enjoys in the US," Misri said.

PM Modi's US visit comes as deportation of 104 illegal Indian immigrants from the US has triggered a political storm in India. A US military aircraft carrying the deportees landed in Amritsar on Wednesday, marking the first such batch expelled by the Trump administration as part of its crackdown on illegal immigration. Some deportees alleged that their hands and legs were cuffed throughout the journey and were unshackled only upon arrival in India.
The issue led to repeated adjournments in the Lok Sabha on Thursday as opposition parties raised concerns over the treatment of deported Indians. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar asserted that the government was engaging with the Trump administration to ensure deportees were not mistreated during flights.
Amidst the uproar, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticised the government over the deportations and questioned Modi’s ties with Trump. "A lot of things were said that Modi ji and Trump ji are very good friends. Why did Modi ji let this happen? Couldn't we have sent our plane to get them? Is this the way one should be behaving with people, that they are sent back in handcuffs and chains?" she said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
Congress MP Manish Tewari said on Friday, "When a country like Colombia sends its airplanes to respectfully bring back its citizens being deported by the US, it sets an example in the world as to how much respect you give to your citizens. Dr Jaishankar's statements made him sound like a spokesperson of the US government and not the Indian EAM."

"PM Narendra Modi should reconsider his US visit after Indian citizens were disrespected," he added.
