Kashmiri MBBS Student Brutally Ragged, Beaten & Threatened By Seniors At Karnataka Medical College

The ordeal of Kashmiri MBBS student Hameem began on Tuesday evening during a cricket match when he was allegedly humiliated and forced to perform certain acts for his seniors.

A second-year MBBS student at Al-Ameen Medical College in Vijayapura, Karnataka, has alleged that he was subjected to brutal ragging and physical assault by senior students. The victim, Hameem, hails from Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir and has accused students from the 2019 batch of humiliating, threatening, and physically attacking him.

According to reports, the ordeal of Hameem began on Tuesday evening during a cricket match when he was allegedly humiliated and forced to perform acts for the amusement of his seniors, reported NDTV. The situation escalated later that night when a group of 6-8 seniors stormed into his hostel room, brutally assaulted him, and forced him to record a video apology under duress.

The incident has sparked outrage, with the National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association taking to social media platform X to condemn the attack.

Taking to X, National Convenor of J&K Student Association said, a group of 6-8 individuals stormed into his hostel room late night and brutally assaulted the victim. They repeatedly beat him, forced him to record a video apologizing under duress, and issued chilling threats.

J&K Students Association, a student network for the safety of the students of Jammu and Kashmir said, "This incident exposes the dangerous culture of ragging that continues to plague our institutions. Ragging is a crime, and those responsible must face strict legal action. No student should live in fear in an institution meant for learning and growth."

They urged Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah to take immediate cognizance of the incident and ensure the safety of the students.

"Justice must be served, and strict action must be taken to prevent such acts in the future. We call on the Karnataka Govt, college administration, and law enforcement to act swiftly. Expulsion & legal action against those responsible is the only way to send a strong message against ragging," it said.
