Delhi Braces For More Rain, Storms As IMD Predicts Rough Weather For Next 2-3 Hours

The IMD has also issued a multi-hazard alert for several regions, including Chandigarh, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, and other Northeastern states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms, light rains, and strong winds gusting up to 60 kmph for Delhi on Monday over the next 2-3 hours. The IMD forecast came just a day after sudden gusty winds, a dust storm, and adverse weather conditions hit the nation's capital as well as swept the region by rains, forcing the diversion of 14 Delhi-bound flights.

A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight had to abort its landing due to strong winds reaching speeds of up to 80 kmph. After making several rounds in the air, the aircraft eventually landed safely at Delhi Airport.

Meanwhile, the IMD has also issued a multi-hazard alert for several regions, including Chandigarh, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, and other Northeastern states, cautioning about potential thundersqualls and thunderstorms, as per the Mint report.

IMD Predicts 'Yellow Alert' For National Capital

Earlier in the morning on June 2, the IMD had predicted rainfall in the national capital and issued a yellow alert. The forecast department has confirmed that there is a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by rain in the city from June 2 to June 4.

The maximum temperature on Monday is predicted to be 37 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature 23 degrees Celsius.

The IMD reported that on Sunday, due to advancing clouds from the east and southeast, winds gusting at 30-40 km/h, increasing to 50 km/h, swept through southern parts of the national capital at intervals of one to two hours.

Wind speeds increased significantly in several locations. At 4:30 PM, Palam and Jharoda Kalan in South West Delhi recorded wind speeds of 65 km/h and 37 km/h, respectively, while Safdarjung witnessed gusts of 66 km/h between 4:35 PM and 4:37 PM, as per the IMD.

Furthermore, wind speeds reached 76 km/h at Pragati Maidan at 4:45 PM on Sunday. According to the Public Works Department (PWD) control room, there were no reports of major waterlogging. An official stated that approximately 10 calls were received regarding waterlogging. The department attributed this sudden situation to the interaction of several active weather systems.
