Denied Fuel For Not Wearing Helmet, UP Electricity Dept Staff Takes 'Revenge' By Cutting Petrol Pump's Power
Yogi Adityanath government ordered district officials to enforce the 'no helmet, no petrol' rule as part of an initiative to reduce road accidents in the state.
A biker, employed by the electricity department, cut off the power supply to a petrol pump in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur district on Monday after being denied fuel due to the enforcement of the 'no helmet, no petrol' rule.
As per the report by NDTV, the biker, upset after a petrol pump attendant refused to refuel his bike because he was not wearing a helmet, retaliated by severing the power connection to the facility.
The initiative came into effect after the Yogi Adityanath government ordered district officials to enforce the 'no helmet, no petrol' rule as part of an initiative in order to reduce road accidents in the state. In this move, the petrol pump owners have been directed to refuse fuel to bikers who don't wear helmets.
A petrol pump attendant stated that a lineman working in the power supply department came to refuel his bike on Monday. After the petrol pump staff discovered him not wearing a helmet, he was refused to fuel his bike.
"Our owner informed us about the district magistrate's order that no one should be given fuel if he/she is not wearing a helmet. When the lineman came, we refused to refuel his bike. He left in a huff and disconnected the power supply, "petrol pump staff said.
'No Helmet, No Petrol' Directives Issued By District Magistrate
The unexpected power outage left the staff puzzled until power was restored 20 minutes later. CCTV footage later revealed the lineman stopping his bike near a transformer, scaling a wall, climbing a pole, and cutting the power line. As he descended, locals were approaching the transformer to investigate. The petrol pump owner has filed a police complaint regarding the incident.
The 'no helmet, no petrol' directive, issued by District Magistrate Prerna Sharma, requires all petrol pumps in Hapur to refuse fuel to helmetless bikers and pillion riders. Pump owners are also instructed to display large awareness hoardings and ensure functional CCTV cameras to assist in resolving disputes.
