Punjab Police Withdraws Additional Security Given To Arvind Kejriwal After Delhi Police Raises Concern

Punjab Police has expressed concern over the development and said that it will remain in touch with the concerned agencies and share their inputs with them to ensure Kejriwal's safety.

The Punjab Police on Thursday announced that it has withdrawn the additional security given to former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, following objections raised by the Delhi Police. However, the Punjab Police has expressed concern over the development and said that it will remain in touch with the concerned agencies and share their inputs with them to ensure the AAP chief's safety.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and the AAP National Convenor are both on Punjab's Z-plus security protectees. Thus, some of the Punjab Police personnel were deployed for Kejriwal's security due to the frequent threats he receives. However, following directions of the Delhi Police and the Election Commission of India, the Punjab Police components were withdrawn. The development comes ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections next month on February 5. Votes will be counted on February 8.

Speaking about the development, Director General of Punjab Police Gaurav Yadav told reporters in Patiala: "Time to time, we get reports of threats to chief minister Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal and we share them with the concerned agencies. Following the directions of the Delhi police and the Election Commission today, we withdrew the component of the Punjab police in the security of Kejriwal ji."

"We showed our concerns to them. We will remain in touch with them. We will share our inputs with the Delhi police," the top police officer added.

ADGP Security Punjab, SS Srivastava said: "Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal are Punjab's Z+ security protectees. Some components of Punjab were participating in the security duties of Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi but after the concern raised by Delhi police we have withdrawn our components."

Kejriwal had been provided Z-plus security by the Ministry of Home Affairs. This security remains with him 24/7. Delhi Police is providing the Z-plus security to him. As part of this, he receives security from 63 personnel, including search-and-frisk units, escort teams, close protection staff, and a pilot. 15 uninformed Central Armed Police Forces personnel are also deployed for his protection.
