Wipro has announced the expansion of its operations in Hyderabad, the company will open a new IT centre at its Gopanapalli campus in the city, creating job opportunities for 5,000 people, both directly and indirectly. The announcement followed discussions between Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu, and Wipro Executive Chairman Rishad Premji at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The new IT centre underscores Wipro’s confidence in Hyderabad’s rising status as a global technology hub. The Gopanapalli campus will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, designed to support advanced IT services and technology innovations.

The commitment was finalised during a high-level meeting attended by Telangana’s delegation, led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and IT & Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, alongside senior AWS executives.
Michael Punke, Vice President of Global Public Policy at AWS, highlighted the company’s vision of Telangana as a pivotal part of its India operations strategy. The discussions emphasized the state government's proactive and supportive approach, which has created an ideal environment for the growth of data centres.
This investment will significantly bolster AWS’s presence in Telangana, with plans to establish new data centres in Hyderabad, further reinforcing the city's position as India’s leading hub for data centres, as noted by Minister D. Sridhar Babu.
AWS has been a key partner in Telangana's digital transformation, previously announcing a $4.4 billion (Rs 36,000 crore) investment by 2030 to enhance cloud infrastructure in the state. The company has already established three operational data centre sites in Telangana, with an investment of $1 billion (approximately Rs 8,000 crores).
To support this new phase of expansion, AWS has requested additional land, a request the Telangana government has readily agreed to facilitate.
Praising the investment, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao expressed, "We are delighted with the growth of confidence of global businesses like Amazon to making huge investments as never before in our state now. The efforts of the last one year have truly borne fruit. This is TelanganaRising vision at work."
