UP Govt Begins Crackdown On Unauthorised E-Rickshaws And Autos; 915 Seized, Over 3,000 Fined So Far

A statewide crackdown on unauthorised e-rickshaws and autos began across Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday following instructions from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, officials said.

The crackdown continued on Wednesday with the Regional Transport Office conducting a campaign in Bachhrawan. They seized unlicensed and uninsured e-rickshaws and fined dozens of drivers for violations.

Crackdown To Last Until April End
Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narain Singh had issued directives to all police commissioners, district magistrates, and police chiefs to ensure the campaign’s success, the statement said, as reported by news agency PTI.
Singh emphasised that the campaign, launched under the chief minister’s orders, is being closely monitored from headquarters. He said that continuous supervision would be maintained throughout the drive, which will continue until 30 April.
District-level officers have been assigned specific responsibilities to ensure effective implementation, the statement added.
Campaign nodal officer, Additional Transport Commissioner (Enforcement) Sanjay Singh, reported that by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, the department had carried out significant enforcement actions in multiple divisions.
According to the statement, 381 e-rickshaws were seized in Ghaziabad, followed by 363 in Agra, 200 in Lucknow, 199 in Jhansi, 171 in Saharanpur, 165 in Mirzapur, 164 in Varanasi, and 136 in Prayagraj.
The crackdown will continue until the end of April, with authorities maintaining strict enforcement measures.
