Tamil Nadu: Two Tiruchi Schools Get Bomb Threats Via Email

Two schools in Tamil Nadu's Tiruchi district received bomb threats via email on Wednesday. The threats were later confirmed to be false alarms.

Two schools in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchi district received bomb threats via email on Wednesday, which were later confirmed to be false alarms after a thorough investigation by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS). The threats were directed at Sri Jayendra Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Santhanam Vidyalayam in Tiruchi, reported news agency IANS.

As a precaution, both institutions declared a holiday for the day. Meanwhile, the police are actively investigating the matter, focusing on identifying the origin of the threatening emails and those involved in sending them.

In response to the situation, security measures in the area have been increased.

Earlier on October 3, a similar series of bomb threats targeted eight educational institutions in Tiruchi. Following an exhaustive search by the BDDS, those threats were also deemed hoaxes.

Again, on October 4, the district's schools faced more threats, which similarly proved to be false. Sources from the Tiruchi police told IANS that the Tamil Nadu Police’s cyber wing has already launched an investigation into these incidents.

In a related incident on August 5, anonymous emails threatened to plant bombs at the Secretariat, the Officers’ Training Academy, and two private schools. Authorities were immediately notified, and after a search, the threats were dismissed as hoaxes. Police are continuing efforts to trace the individuals responsible.

On September 30, four CBSE schools in Madurai — three in the city and one in the rural district — received bomb threats via email. This prompted an evacuation of students. After extensive searches by police and BDDS teams, including the use of sniffer dogs, no explosive was found.

Recently, several schools across Tamil Nadu received similar bomb threats. All the threats were debunked as hoaxes following detailed investigations. A senior officer from Tamil Nadu’s cyber police told IANS, “These incidents cannot be taken lightly. We are conducting a comprehensive investigation to prevent further disruptions. The perpetrators are utilising the dark web to mask their identities, but our cyber experts are working on tracking them down.”
