Parliament Monsoon Session: Opposition Protest Plans Trigger Fresh Deadlock

The Parliament Monsoon Session is likely to witness another day of disruptions as the deadlock between the government and the opposition continues. A major meeting of the INDIA bloc MPs is underway at the Parliament complex, where opposition leaders are discussing their strategy and plans for further protests. Meanwhile, the NDA Parliamentary Party is also holding its meeting, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi present at the gathering. The ongoing session has been marked by repeated disruptions, with several days of proceedings being affected by protests and heated exchanges between treasury and opposition benches. The opposition has been preparing demonstrations inside the Parliament premises, while the government has accused opposition parties of deliberately preventing legislative work. The NDA Parliamentary Party’s “Mangal Milan” programme is being closely watched, as there is speculation over whether Prime Minister Modi will address MPs. Previous meetings saw discussions on government initiatives and presentations from different ministries, while the latest gathering has drawn attention amid the continuing parliamentary standoff. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra criticised the opposition over repeated disruptions, alleging that Congress and its allies are intentionally preventing the smooth functioning of Parliament. He cited issues related to alleged irregularities in the Karnataka police constable recruitment examination and accused the opposition of using protests to stall proceedings. The government has highlighted the financial cost of running Parliament and argued that important parliamentary functions, including Question Hour and Zero Hour, are being affected due to disruptions. Opposition parties, however, continue to raise their concerns and demand discussions on issues they consider important.
