Sisters Fall In Water-Logged Borewell In Paddy Field

The tragic incident unfolded in Hiloundha village, located in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district, where two young girls accidentally fell into an open, water-filled borewell on Sunday evening. The victims, 16-year-old Somwati, daughter of Chhagu Ahirwar, and 10-year-old Durga, daughter of Santosh Ahirwar, had accompanied their families to a nearby field for paddy plantation work.

Owing to heavy rainfall earlier in the day, the field was partially submerged, making it difficult to spot the uncovered borewell hidden beneath the water. While walking through the flooded field, the younger girl, Durga, slipped into the pit. Witnessing the fall, her elder sister Somwati instinctively rushed to help, but sadly, she too fell into the same borewell.

Rescue Efforts Continue Amid Darkness And Flooded Fields

Around 9:30 PM on Sunday night, after several hours of intense rescue efforts, teams successfully recovered the body of the body of 16-year-old Somwati from the borewell. The recovery, however, brought only partial closure, as 10-year-old Durga remains missing. Rescue operations to locate the younger girl are still in full swing, but officials admit that the mission is becoming increasingly difficult due to several challenges.

The field where the incident occurred remains heavily waterlogged following continuous rain, and the lack of visibility after sunset has further complicated the process. Despite these hurdles, rescue workers have brought in a JCB machine to accelerate the digging process and expand the borewell area in hopes of reaching Durga in time. The entire village has been gripped with anxiety and sorrow, as families and locals wait for any news.
