MP Man Arrested For Claiming Pahalgam Attack Victim's Wife Plotted Husband's Murder

A man from MP, has been arrested for sharing an objectionable and baseless claim on social media stating that the wife of the victim killed in the Pahalgam terror attack plotted her husband's murder.

A man from Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur has been arrested for sharing an objectionable and baseless claim on social media stating that the wife of the victim killed in the Pahalgam terror attack plotted her husband's murder.

The accused, identified as Osaf Khan, reportedly from the medical profession uploaded a social media post suggesting that the woman, who lost her husband in the attack earlier this week, had hired a shooter to kill him.

His post came after a heartbreaking image went viral on social media where a woman - in red bridal bangles - sat beside her husband's lifeless body.

"This woman should be investigated. Maybe she hired a shooter and got her husband killed the moment she got the opportunity," Khan wrote in his post, drawing immediate widespread condemnation from social media users.

The couple had got married just a week before the attack. In a video statement days later, she recounted the horrific incident and claimed that the gunmen said her husband was not a Muslim and shot him dead.

Khan's post triggered anguish among local residents and one of them, Abhay Srivastav filed a police complaint after which the accused was arrested.

Pahalgam Terror Attack

Around five to six gunmen opened fire at Baisaran meadows near Pahalgam, killing 26 civilians, including 2 foreign nationals and a local. The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack.

On Friday, Army Chief General Upendra Rawat arrived in Kashmir to review the situation. Army commander, Northern Command, Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, accompanied the Army Chief, the officials said.

On Thursday, the Centre called an all-party meeting where leaders across the party lines called for decisive action against terrorism and terror camps, and assured the government of their full support, even as some opposition parties flagged security lapses.

The government said it was taking all measures to ensure security and assured the leaders of action against terrorism and its backers.
