Mumbai Engineer Dies By Jumping Off Atal Setu Bridge, Third Such Incident In A Week

The video footage shows that he drove his car to the Nhava Sheva end of the Atal Setu and parked it near the railing at around 12:30 PM, before jumping off the bridge to take his own life.

Mumbai: A 38-year-old engineer from Mumbai jumped off the Atal Setu bridge on Wednesday afternoon, in third such incident in a week. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, which showed the man stopping his Tata Nexon on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link and attempting suicide by getting on top of the railing and jumping to death.

The man has been identified a K Shrinivas , an engineer and a resident of Dombivili, news agency PTI reported.

The video footage shows that he drove his car to the Nhava Sheva end of the Atal Setu and parked it near the railing at around 12:30 PM, before jumping to take his own life.

The family members of the Shrinivas claimed that he had been struggling to make ends meet. They believe that the financial issues are the reason behind his drastic step, the report said.

He left his residence at around 11:30 PM last night.

Shrinivas had also spoken to his four-year-old daughter and wife over phone just hours before taking the extreme step.

His family also told the police that he had tried to commit suicide earlier in 2023, by drinking a floor cleaner liquid in Kuwait, where he worked. He had wuit his job last October and started his own business in Dombivli, Mumbai Live reported.

A police official stated that search was underway to find his body.

Navi Mumbai Police has launched a search to find him with Atal Setu rescue teams, coastal police, and local fishermen. However, the police are facing obstacles in the search operation due to rough sea and rain.

3rd Such Incident In A Week, 2nd On Atal Setu

This is the second case of suicide on the Atal Setu bridge. In March this year, a 43-year-old woman had jumped off the sea bridge. She was a doctor and had reportedly been facing depression and anxiety issues. A purported suicide note was also recovered from her house in Mumbai.

On July 21, a 65-year-old diamond merchant from South Mumabi had allegedly died by suicide by jumping into the Arabian sea near Gateway of India.

In another incident, a resident of Ghatkopar had taken his life on July 17 by jumping off the Worli-Bandra sea link, Mumbai Live reported.
